Annual ‘Lights On Afterschool’ events celebrate Kidstop school-age care program, staff, students and families

Community Education’s Kidstop and Four Star Express students, staff and families gathered last week at Kidstop sites to celebrate the Annual Lights On Afterschool, a nationally recognized annual event that celebrates the many ways after school programs keep kids safe, inspire them to learn and help working families.

To prepare for the celebration, staff at each Kidstop site planned special activities for students and families to come to school and enjoy together. This year each school offered unique events and choice-based activities. The variety of activities included decorating light switch covers, filling plastic light bulbs with sand, making posters with positive, affirming messages about Kidstop, a glow dance party in the gym, bingo game, paper lanterns, a photo booth and pumpkin painting. Favorite treats such as cookies and cupcakes were also served. 

In Osseo Area Schools, Community Education’s Kidstop program is dedicated to providing an enriching choice-based education in a safe and welcoming environment where students are inspired, personal growth is nurtured and families are supported. Celebrating Lights On Afterschool is one way Community Education programs create opportunities that positively impact our community.
