Best Buy’s Geek Squad Academy spent two days at Brooklyn Middle STEAM School (BMS) May 13 and 14, offering a variety of technology-related classes during students’ elective class times.

BMS submitted a proposal to Best Buy at the beginning of the year to provide students this opportunity, which is at no cost to schools who are selected from the list of applicants. BMS was selected as one of 44 schools the Geek Squad Academy visits this year.

The first day of the visit focused more on fundamentals on the different topics, while the second day advanced to more in-depth learning and exploration on several different tech-related projects and skills.

Some of the topics covered during Geek Squad Academy’s visit to BMS included 3-D design, “AI Why” that taught students about how best to utilize AI and creating their own AI through a program called Doodle Detector, lessons on internet safety and digital footprints, coding and programming, using DSLR cameras and more.

“BMS STEAM students had an incredible opportunity to learn alongside Geek Squad Academy from Best Buy and explore real-world STEAM connections,” said Shannon Comisar, the school’s STEAM curriculum coordinator. “Students were able to build skills, spark curiosity and see how technology connects to future careers.”
