Cedar Island Elementary School students engage in music with Bobcat Choir and Modern Band
Students at Cedar Island Elementary School have found unique ways to engage with music so far this school year with the extracurricular activities Bobcat Choir and Modern Band.
During the school day and again the night of Dec. 3, the Bobcat Choir put on a performance for their family and friends. The students, led by music specialist Stefan Wolf, have met weekly since October to rehearse. The students sang songs such as “Lift My Voice,” “To music,” "Glorious," as well as a song from Ghana that was mixed with “Joy Like a River.”

The students in the Modern Band, who call themselves “BC/RC,” rocked out in the media center the evening of Dec. 9, when they put on a performance for their families. Organized and led by Wolf and physical education teacher Michael Fruncillo, the band offers a way for students to immerse themselves in music that is of their musical vernacular, but isn't traditionally honored in the academic musical setting to make music fun, relevant and real for students. The band played songs including “When I Come Around,” “Wild Thing,” “Nice to Have a Friend,” “TNT” and “Zombie.”
