District schools host welcome events in advance of attendance boundary shifts

With just a few weeks left in the school year, schools are working to ensure families feel informed about upcoming attendance boundary changes and welcomed to their new school communities. Attendance boundaries will shift this fall in order to balance enrollment across the district and create an attendance boundary for the district’s new elementary school, Aspen Ridge.
Schools that are welcoming new students due to attendance boundary changes have been hosting events this spring, mostly in tandem with other school events, so that incoming students and families can get a feel for their new school community and meet current families and staff, along with others transitioning to the building.
Fair Oaks Elementary’s recent event included fun, fitness-themed activities like jump rope, an imagination playground in the media center, cup stacking, football, ball toss, cornhole and more. Families could also get food, take tours and ask questions about the school and programming opportunities.
Rush Creek Elementary hosted an ice cream social and book fair event that featured a band performance, while Park Brook Elementary held an informational meeting to share details about the school, give tours and provide fun activities for incoming students and their families.
Garden City Elementary held tours guided by student ambassadors, shared a classroom presentation by school leaders and served food to attendees.
Upcoming welcome events for incoming students and families include:
- North View Middle School’s two fifth grade welcome events May 22 and 29 at 10:30 a.m. Previous events for other grades have concluded, but tours for new families are still available.
- Palmer Lake Elementary School’s welcome event in conjunction with Multicultural Night May 21 from 4:15-5 p.m.
- Zanewood Community: A STEAM School’s welcome event in conjunction with STEAMFest May 21 from 5-6:30 p.m.
