District 279 Foundation new Strong Start initiative; grant applications open

 

For more than a decade, the District 279 Foundation brought our community together each fall for the Reading is Fun 5K, raising vital support for media centers across Osseo Area Schools. That event helped thousands of scholars access the books and resources that make learning come alive, and we are grateful to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered, and gave along the way.

 

This year, District 279 Foundation will carry that same mission forward in a new direction: the Strong Start Initiative. Strong Start supports the newest educators in Osseo Area Schools by helping cover the cost of setting up their very first classrooms. Research completed by District 279 Foundation found that nationally, new teachers spend an average of $895 out of pocket before they ever see a paycheck. 

 

That is why the District 279 Foundation has committed $20,000 to help brand new educators build welcoming, well-equipped classrooms that inspire and prepare scholars this fall.
