Osseo Education Center students learn outdoor skills with Friends of the Boundary Waters, Wilderness Inquiry
On Oct. 24, students at the Osseo Education Center (OEC) learned important outdoor skills at an all-school event in partnership with the Friends of the Boundary Waters and Wilderness Inquiry outdoor programs.
At stations throughout the day, the students learned how to use a compass, what is needed and how to start a fire, how to put together and take down a tent and how to portage a canoe, as well as other leadership and team building activities.
OEC has partnered with this organization in the past for both on-site and off-site experiences, such as the school’s annual field trip to Fish Lake, where they put their outdoor skills to the test to see if they remember how to put up a tent and read a compass. They also expand on their knowledge of canoes by taking a canoe out onto the lake. The Friends of the Boundary Waters works to connect people of all backgrounds to the wilderness and outdoor adventures.
