Recognizing Veterans Day

Recognizing Veterans Day
Osseo Area Schools celebrated Veterans Day across the district on Nov. 11. Here’s a sampling of how schools commemorated the holiday and honored our nation’s veterans:

Basswood Elementary School

Veterans, current service members and their families were invited to attend Basswood Elementary School’s all school assembly on Nov. 11. At the assembly, the fifth grade chorus, led by music teacher Cindy Stearns, sang songs such as “Star Spangled Banner” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag”. Students, staff and visitors heard from Master Sergeant Jeremy Malchow, the Assistant Coordinator of Facilities for the district, about his experience serving. The Osseo Maple Grove American Legion presented the Color Guard, accompanied by the Minnesota Firefighters Pipes and Drums.

Dressed in his Army fatigues, Faraci told his story of deciding to join the army after the events of September 11, 2001, and shared about his military experience with students. Mr. Faraci also talked with students at Kidstop about his experiences serving in the Army and spoke about the important role education played in his military career.

In addition, Oak View fifth grade teacher Nicole Johnson, a veteran of the United States Navy, came to school in her full military uniform in honor of Veterans Day. She shared information about her service with her students to commemorate the important holiday.
