Survey conducted by research firm shows Osseo Area Schools is continuing to build a district of excellence

At this month’s school board meetings, the Morris Leatherman Company shared results of a scientifically valid community survey conducted by their research firm this past January. Overall, it showed that our district continues to build a strong reputation of excellence and trust amongst families and community members, and that it’s continuing to climb with metrics well above state average.

The quality of education had an 85% positive rating, which is three percentage points up from the district’s 2023 survey and seven percentage points above the state average. For parents/caregivers, this rating came in higher at 93%.

“People feel more positive here in Osseo Area Schools than they do across the state,” said Peter Leatherman, CEO of the Morris Leatherman Company.

The results showed that our district prioritizes three things equally — good teachers, community involvement and quality education. Leatherman noted that all three are important, and that it was an impressive anomaly to have a sense of community considering the size of our district.

Parents/caregivers are continuing to have positive responses to a variety of school-level experiences, including: teachers and staff care, 100 percent agree; school is an emotionally safe environment, 98 percent agree; and school is a physically safe environment, 95 percent agree.

Overall, there is a growing sense of connection and trust. 88% feel there is inclusive participation of our communities (91% parents/caregivers); 87% feel heard and valued (94% parents/caregivers); and 91% trust the district to do what is right for students (94% parents/caregivers).

Financially-speaking, 82% say the district is responsibly utilizing bond and operating funds. The parents/caregiver rating came in higher, at 89%.

“There’s an overwhelming feeling of positivity about the district,” said Leatherman.

Our Osseo Area Schools team will continue to utilize this community feedback to guide its strategic decisions. As discussed by the board and leadership, the district uses these measurements to ensure we’re meeting community expectations and driving student achievement. By consistently tracking these trends, our district remains committed to providing an exceptional, safe and welcoming educational experience for all students.
